Healing Beyond Cancer Treatment: HowICCP Helps Survivors Reclaim Their Lives

For many cancer survivors, the end of treatment marks the beginning of a new journey. While chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery may be complete, the physical and emotional effects often linger for months—or even years. Fatigue, pain, muscle weakness, and anxiety can make it difficult to return to everyday life.

That's where Swedish Hospital Integrated Cancer Care Program (ICCP) makes a difference.

ICCP provides cancer survivors with free supportive services designed to help them heal beyond their medical treatment. Through therapeutic massage, individualized personal training and other wellness services, participants receive the care and encouragement they need to rebuild strength, restore mobility, reduce treatment-related fatigue, and improve their overall quality of life. Because these services are often not covered by insurance, many patients would not have access to them without the generosity of donors.

The benefits of ICCP extend beyond what patients experience physically. Physicians who refer their patients to the program see firsthand how these services can support recovery and help survivors regain a sense of well-being after treatment.

"As a surgeon, I've seen tremendous benefits from ICCP. It helps my patients with their recovery as well as their overall health. It improves their physical and mental health and allows them to move beyond their cancer diagnosis." Dr. Cecylia Mizera, Swedish Hospital surgeon

For the patients, the results of participating in the program are life-changing. Kevin, an ICCP participant, remembers how difficult life felt after completing treatment.

"After months of chemotherapy and radiation, my body felt broken. The massages I've received through this program have been a lifeline. They have eased my pain and helped me feel human again."

In addition to massage therapy, Kevin worked with an ICCP personal trainer to regain his strength and confidence.

"Before the program, I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without feeling exhausted. My personal trainer didn't just help me get stronger physically—they gave me my confidence back. Now, I'm back to doing the things I love."

Stories like Kevin's are why ICCP exists. Every massage can ease pain and stress. Every personal training session helps survivors safely rebuild their strength, balance, and endurance. Most importantly, each participant is reminded that they are not facing recovery alone.

Unlike many rehabilitation services, ICCP is funded entirely through philanthropy. Every massage, every training session, and every acupuncture treatment is made possible by compassionate donors who believe every cancer survivor deserves the opportunity to heal completely—not just survive.

Your support can make that healing possible for someone in our community.

A gift of $75 provides a one-hour massage therapy session for a cancer survivor. $100 sponsors a personalized fitness training session focused on improving strength, reducing treatment-related fatigue, and supporting recovery. A gift of $1,000 can provide an entire month of supportive services, giving a survivor resources they need to continue rebuilding their health and independence. You can help a patient today with a gift of any amount.

Together, we can ensure that cancer survivors have access to the care that helps them regain their strength, restore their confidence, and return to the lives they love. Your generosity provides more than supportive services—it offers hope, healing, and a brighter path forward for every survivor who walks through ICCP's doors.
